Black Dog / Gou Zhen

Leaving prison, Lang travels across the desolate landscape of the Gobi Desert and returns to his hometown in northwest China, now nearly abandoned. He get a job collecting stray dogs. A black dog, with a high capture reward, bites Lang. Isolated to prevent the spread of the rabies virus, they end up becoming friends. A sort of twilight western and a moving story of redemption and friendship, which impresses and captivates us from the very beginning. A portrait of economic changes in a rapidly changing China. It's no coincidence that the greatest portraitist of modern China, director Jia Zhang-Ke, is one of the actors in the film.
