Sinopse
This Understage concert brings together two solo performances: one by German producer Thomas Brinkmann, a major figure in international electronic music, and the other by Portuguese percussionist and sound artist Vicente Mateus, in an evening dedicated to sonic experimentation and contemporary languages spanning electronics, percussion and immersive listening. Through this double bill format, Matéria Prima seeks to establish dialogues between local contexts and international circuits, bringing emerging artists into proximity with key figures in contemporary experimental and electronic music.

Author's bio text
Thomas Brinkmann presents GETGETGET in Porto, released by the historic MEGO label, in a unique pre-release event. A central figure in European experimental electronics since the 1990s, Brinkmann brings a work built from material developed in conceptual collaboration with Peter Rehberg (PITA), establishing a dialogue between silence, code and perception. The title refers to Rehberg’s Get LP trilogy, and the music merges these two identities into a third form, born from a live performance at the label’s 30th anniversary in Berlin. The work reveals itself as both sonic artefact and conceptual system, examining what remains when sound is reduced, extracted and reconstituted. Inspired by Günther Anders’s “negative music” and Heinrich Böll’s “collected silence”, GETGETGET treats silence as matter. What remains is the circulation of signals, data and meaning within systems that increasingly define perception itself.
Vicente Mateus lives and works in Porto, developing a practice situated between the visual arts, sound and drawing, with a particular focus on percussion as a space for performative construction and sensory exploration. His work brings together collaborative practices and processes of sharing, using repetition and error as tools for the creation of objects, sounds and images. Since 2022, he has been part of the Sonoscopia team, a structure dedicated to creation, experimentation and reflection through sound, establishing himself as one of the most compelling emerging voices in the Portuguese experimental scene. At Understage, he presents a piece for drum kit, objects and feedback, in which sound unfolds between paralysing continuities and assertive rhythms.
