Sinopse

“Ask someone to jump and you shall see their true face”, once said the American photographer Philippe Halsman. What is then, the true face of dance in these days of uncertainty? What wouldn’t we like to show and what would we like to see? “The Dog Days Are Over” premieres in Portugal and shows eight dancers in a continuous physical act: jumping. A repetitive exhaustion revealing that dancers can’t be more than artists; but at the service of what, exactly?

Jan Martens was born in Belgium, in 1984. He studied at the Fontys Dance Academy, in Tilburg, and graduated in Dance, in Antwerp, in 2006. He has worked with several choreographers and started developing his own work in 2009. Since 2013, he’s a resident artist of the ICKamsterdam and since 2014, of Tanzhaus NRW Dusseldorf.
