Sinopse

There is a house. It is not merely a place... it is a body, a memory, a substance made of shadow. Inside it, a man tries to see. He closes his eyes. And that is when something begins: a very faint, almost imperceptible light, appearing and disappearing in a flickering dance. A presence. Perhaps a woman. Perhaps nothing more than the form of a desire. Mulher Luz  is born in that space between what is seen and what is imagined, between the gesture and its failure. Based on a free adaptation of the works of José Luís Peixoto, the play unfolds as a sensory journey where words fragment and the body becomes language. Puppets, video and physicality conjure an unsettled space, where figures emerge and dissolve, as if they never truly come into existence. The house transforms. The darkness thickens. The world creeps in, at times violent, at times absurd, and pierces the bodies... leaving marks, absences, voids. At the centre, the persistent attempt to touch what eludes us. But there are encounters that never quite happen. There are presences that only exist whilst they are pursued. —  Teatro de Marionetas do Porto

Author's bio text

Teatro de Marionetas do Porto was founded in September 1988, a symbolic date that coincides with the company's presentation at the Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes, in Charleville-Mézières. The company's theatrical practice reveals a non-conventional vision of the puppet, a concept that is continuously updated, and the understanding of the puppet theatre as a poetic and imagetic language evocative of contemporaneity. They try to find new ways of conceiving the puppets, at the limit kinetic objects, and new possibilities of exploring the grammar of this theatrical language, regarding the interpretation and the transversal relation with other areas of expression such as dance, plastic arts, music and image.

In the year of its 25th anniversary (2013), Teatro de Marionetas do Porto accomplished the great dream of its founder João Paulo Seara Cardoso (1956-2010), the opening of a museum - Museu das Marionetas do Porto.
