Sinopse

Receita do Povo is an album woven from 15 years of experience, emotions, and resilience. It stems from a deep immersion in oral traditions, drum circles, and the Romani communities that welcomed O Gringo Sou Eu in Portugal. The album delves into the artist’s childhood memories in Brazil, where the sacred and the profane coexisted: the festivals of São Cosme and Damião, prayer women, home remedies, Umbanda, Quimbanda, and healing rituals. This “recipe” for survival and Brazilian faith now intersects with the reality of Portuguese Romani communities.
Live, O Gringo Sou Eu joins forces with Bahian percussionist Lizz Marchi for an encounter between Afro-Brazilian ancestry and the dense textures of urban electronic music. It is a living manifesto on identity and cultural survival. The weight of Grime and Dub meets Funk, creating a foundation of deep bass and cutting beats. Lizz’s percussion brings life and movement, transforming the stage into a space of celebration and cultural resistance.

Author's bio text

O Gringo Sou Eu is the solo project of Franklin Soares Monteiro (Angra dos Reis, 1978), a Brazilian musician, producer, and cultural activist who has lived in Portugal since 2010. Founder of the Espaço Cultural Francisco de Assis França in Rio de Janeiro (Ponto de Cultura under the Cultura Viva Program), he has spent over a decade carrying out significant work in social inclusion through art in communities across the state of Rio de Janeiro. In Portugal, he has been consolidating his artistic and community career, with performances on national stages such as Serralves em Festa, Primavera Sound, and Festival Tremor, as well as international ones like the ImpulsTanz Vienna and Lusosonic Nice festivals. At the same time, he is dedicated to creating electronic music studios, promoting arts education and the empowerment of young people—for 15 years he has been working closely with the Romani community in Vila Nova de Famalicão (in partnership with the municipality) and, more recently, in Viseu (through the Escolhas program). He is the vocalist for HHY & THE MACUMBAS and the tambourine player for SAMBA SEM FRONTEIRAS.
