Sinopse
Her extensive curriculum includes a resident composer scholarship at Elektronmusikstudion (Stockholm), and performing at festivals such as Norberg, Clandestino, Heart of Noise, Le Guess Who? and Supersonic, as well as in iconic spaces like the Institute of Contemporary Arts or Cafe Oto, in London. Her debut album, “Ahwar” (which means “swamps” in Arabic) took her two years to compose and is an in-and-out-of-this-world record. Composed, written and produced by El Shazly herself, in collaboration with Maurice Louca and Sam Shalabi from The Dwarfs of East Agouza, the album was crafted between two continents, between Canada and Egypt. If one imagines the worlds of Nico, Björk and Annette Peacock with Arabic as their native language, explored through the acoustic harmony of avant-garde jazz and remade under a modern perspective of maqam music by the influential Kamilya Jubran, one may come close to what the music of Nadah El Shazly sounds like.
