Sinopse

One moves from illusion to blindness and from blindness to revelation. Ferociousness and the desire for peace, savagery and the ambition for a simple, peaceful life are manifest. Opposite and contradictory feelings, elements which shock due to their extreme ambiguity; bodies dismembered, social status put to the test, faith and beliefs tested to the limit... miracles! Here is the world, moral and aesthetic, that the author invites us into and which we accept, leading us into the depths of the human psyche, subject to forces beyond reason. In“Bacantes - Prelúdio para uma Purga”, the music, dance and mystery lead us like tightrope walkers under a thread of intensity, in a battle of appearances and dissimulation, polarised between Apollo and Dionysus.

Marlene Monteiro Freitas was born in Cape Verde where she co-founded the dance group Compass. She studied dance at P.A.R.T.S. (Brussels), E.S.D. and the Calouste Gulbenkian Fondation (Lisbon). She has worked with Emmanuelle Huynn, Loïc Touzé, Tânia Carvalho, Boris Charmatz and others. She created the pieces “Jaguar” with the help of Andreas Merk (2015), “de marfim e carne - as estátuas também sofrem” (2014), “Paraíso - colecção privada” (2012-13), “(M)imosa” with Trajal Harrell, François Chaignaud and Cecilia Bengolea (2011), “Guintche” (2010), “A Seriedade do Animal” (2009-10), “Uns e Outros” (2008), “A Improbabilidade da Certeza” (2006), “Larvar”(2006) and“Primeira Impressão” (2005), all works whose common denominator is opening, impurity and intensity. She is co-founder of P.OR.K, a production company based in Lisbon.
