Lavagante

Directed by Mário Barroso from a script by António-Pedro Vasconcelos, who adapted the novel of the same name by writer José Cardoso Pires, Lavagante is the story of a ardent passion in a country under surveillance, marked by the repression of the political police of the Salazar dictatorship, censorship, persecution and imprisonment, and the student revolt in Lisbon in the early 1960s. The film premieres on the day that José Cardoso Pires, one of the most extraordinary Portuguese novelists of the second half of the 20th century, would have turned 100, and will be one of the highlights of the celebration of his centenary.
