Despite numerous awards, including a Palme d'Or at Cannes, a Golden Lion at Venice, and several David di Donatello awards for Italian cinema, the reception of Visconti's work, as often happens with geniuses, was frequently turbulent. Now, as we commemorate the 120th anniversary of his birth and the 50th anniversary of his death, we return to his work with this retrospective, the largest since those at the Gulbenkian in the late 1970s and Porto 2001. Let us return to Visconti, whose work is among the highest levels in the history of cinema.
