It is a fundamental gesture in order to achieve autonomy, and thus it must be encouraged. By imitating adults, children want to be their equals. The younger ones constantly mimic and repeat sentences, gestures, and behaviours. It’s their way of learning to absorb and imitate all they see and hear.
