Sinopse

Quem sou eu? [Who am I?] is a creative project that arose from the strong motivation to work with communities from the perspective of artistic awareness and social inclusion, with the support of the Social Cohesion Department/Oporto City Council. The 6th edition was created with 17 elderly people from Casa de Lordelo.
Each edition presents a new challenge, which distinguishes and characterizes each creation by constantly adjusting to the diversity of participants and the dynamics of the elderly groups. The project is distinguished by its commitment to quality work, which includes the technical preparation, body and voice, manipulation and painting of the puppets and, in this edition, also the making of some of the puppets' costumes. The show allows for a very special and affective encounter of discovery with the audience, giving visibility to a characteristic and rich heritage of the city's elderly population.
This project is part of the Porto Age-Friendly City Action Plan, 2023-2025. Quem sou eu? is a journey built with the elderly, in search of the beauty that lies within each one of them. — Isabel Barros

Author's bio text

Teatro de Marionetas do Porto was born in September of 1988, a symbolic date that corresponds to the presentation of the company at the Word Festival of Puppet Theatres in Charleville-Mézières. The company’s theatrical practice reveals a non-conventional way of looking at puppets—in fact, an ever-changing notion—and an understanding of puppet theatre as a poetic and visual language reminiscent of contemporaneity. They seek to find new ways of designing puppets, which are ultimately kinetic objects, and new ways of exploring the grammar of this theatrical language concerning performance and the cross-cutting relation with other forms of expression such as dance, visual arts, music and image. In 2013, when it celebrated its 25th anniversary, the company fulfilled the great dream of its founder (João Paulo Seara Cardoso, 1956-2010) and opened the Porto Puppet Museum.
