The Old Oak

“If you choose the right story, you gain a profound insight into how the world works” said the doyen Ken Loach, who does not give up on the practice of politically conscious and socially interventionist cinema, focused on the fragile experience of the working class. He chose the story of T.J. Ballantyne (Dave Turner), who fights to keep open his pub, the“Old Oak”, the last place to hang out in a destitute mining community in the north of England. The arrival of a group of Syrian refugees ignites racial tensions, but T.J.'s unexpected friendship with young Yara (Ebla Mari) gives rise to hope for a more united and bright future.
