Chungking Express

Under the neon lights of Hong Kong's cityscape, two parallel stories explore the melancholy of lost love and the innocence of new passions. The first narrative follows agent 223, a police officer who plans his destiny on a collection of pineapple cans whose expiration date expires on May 1st. An encounter with a mysterious woman wearing a blonde wig breaks him out of the state of stagnation in which he finds himself. The second story revolves around agent 663 and the end of his relationship with a flight attendant, a tragedy that reaches the ears of a snack bar employee who starts looking for ways to cheer him up. With its vibrant colors and effervescent movement, Chungking Express marked Wong Kar-Wai's moment of internationalization.
