On Saturday, February 4th, the Encyclopédie de la parole — an artistic project of which French artist Joris Lacoste is part — presents Suite No. 4, the last chapter of its series of suites, at Teatro Campo Alegre.

For this work, unlike the previous suites, the recorded human voices from the Encyclopédie de la parole sound collection will be heard directly. They will no longer be performers giving life to archived voices, but rather the speakers themselves returning from the past to speak with their unique voices, tones and breath.

This work is part of a 15-year archive constructed by the Paris-based collective that has more than a thousand recordings, which include excerpts from readings, instructions, stories and speeches in various languages, such as Spanish, French, German, Russian, Malay, Swedish, Japanese, Greek, among others. Since its inception in 2007, the collective has gathered and catalogued these recordings according to factors — timbre, intensity, dynamics, rhythm — and is available in encyclopediedelaparole.org/fr

This show features live music by Pierre-Yves Macé and Sébastien Roux, performed by Ensemble Ictus, a contemporary music ensemble from Brussels.

Encyclopédie de la parole has already passed through the Teatro Municipal do Porto, with Suite no. 2, at Teatro Rivoli, in 2016, within the scope of the 39th edition of FITEI - International Festival of Iberian Expression Theater.

The show is presented on Saturday, February 4th, at 19:30, at Teatro Alegre , after performing at Culturgest in Lisbon on February 1st.
