Sinopse
Seven years after his last solo appearance in Porto, Norberto Lobo returns to the Invicta for a concert at Understage. Since that October 2019, a lot has happened – new collaborations, new groups, new territories for his guitar – but the solo remains the place where his music finds its most essential form. One of the most singular musicians to emerge in Portugal over the past two decades, Norberto Lobo has made the guitar a territory of permanent discovery. His music draws from recognisable places (Carlos Paredes, Portuguese popular music, blues, American Primitive, jazz and improvisation) without ever limiting itself to inhabiting them. There is always something that veers off, interrupts the predictable, searches for another possibility. Along the way, he has been part of projects such as Oba Loba, Chão Maior and Montanhas Azuis, and has crossed paths with musicians such as Eric Chenaux, Yaw Tembe, João Lobo, Carlos Bica and Ben Chasny. He released “Estrela” in 2018 and has continued ever since to expand his language on stage and through different formations. But it is in the encounter with the guitar alone that his oldest and most fertile territory remains. On September 25, at Understage, we will finally have the chance to hear him this way again: alone, close and unpredictable. One guitar, one musician and all the space between what has been written and what might happen in the moment.
