Sinopse

This is a play about transcendence; about a man who chooses an extreme way of life and talks to God. Daniel Faria was a Portuguese poet and monk. He collected stones and liked theatre, literature, music, film and the light inside churches. He was almost obsessively devoted to his friends. In his poetry, God is a bodily experience. He died at 28 from a fall in his cell at the Singeverga Benedictine monastery. Central to Daniel Faria’s life was sharing. Sharing words, friendship, poetry and faith. And also sharing theatre, where he found a unique language. “Daniel chose to have a quiet life, but his inner body of work is a response to the word of God,” stated a companion from the monastery. “You can’t imagine how he shone when he acted. When he came out onto the stage, he was transformed,” someone also said. He had within him the need to act. And it is through acting that one understands faith. If it is to be found anywhere, it is in the rites rather than the doctrine. Faith is a means of doing and acting. It is a presence, an attitude. And hence this play, where the bodies become the archive and the memory gestures of faith, of different ways of dancing, of different ways of asking do you agree to betouched? Daniel Faria’s quiet life has been illuminated.
