Christian Rizzo returns to Teatro Municipal do Porto after presenting “D’Après Une Histoire Vraie" [Based on a True Story] in 2016, and “Le Syndrome Ian” in 2017.
A house as a place to gather what’s scattered. A house one finds, one builds, to where one invites, from where one leaves. A house that does not hinder movement, but benefits circulation. There’s a space, an interior, concrete or mental, where intimacy and the ordinary negotiate history in the plural, and attempt to make poetry together. There are hollow spaces that remind us of other inhabitants—be those who stay one day or those who stay a lifetime—and everyone’s ghosts taking over everything. There are lives of varying lengths. There’s the musicality of the bodies. And there’s silence. “Une maison” [A House] is a piece for 14 performers that wraps us in a flow of movement between solitude, communion, built-in memories and a blank space to fill with vitality and future.

Christian Rizzo was born in 1965, in Cannes, France. He took his first steps as an artist in Toulouse, where he formed a rock band and designed a line of clothing, before starting studying visual arts in Nice. In 1996, he created “L’Association Fragile”, which he used to present dance performances, while making the new commissioned projects in the field of fashion and visual arts known. From 2007 to 2012, he was artist in residence at Lille’s Opera. Christian Rizzo is currently one of the most prominent names of French performing arts, and he was awarded the title of Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters, a commendation given by the French Government. He is the current director of the National Choreographic Centre of Montpellier Languedoc-Roussillon.
